Dr. Leonard Miller uses BOTOX® injections to help his patients find relief from excessive sweating, headaches, and teeth grinding.
Boston, MA – Dr. Leonard B. Miller, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Boston, works with his patients to find the best solution for their needs and ensure successful results. While BOTOX® injections are typically used to smooth wrinkles or cosmetically enhance facial features, there are a variety of other conditions the minimally-invasive treatment can be used to address.
In addition to facial rejuvenation, BOTOX® injections can be used to decrease excessive sweating, reduce the intensity and frequency of headaches and migraines, and minimize teeth grinding. According to Dr. Miller, the majority of his patients that visit the Boston Center for Facial Rejuvenation are unaware of these additional benefits, and he hopes that more will take advantage of the range of treatments BOTOX® injections have to offer.
Second to facial rejuvenation, Dr. Miller notes that the most common reason patients receive BOTOX® injections is to prevent excessive sweating (or hyperhidrosis). By reducing the stimulation of sweat glands in the underarms or hands, he says BOTOX® injections can help limit or stop excessive sweating when topical medications have failed to produce the desired result. The results of this hyperhidrosis treatment generally last up to four months, though the Boston plastic surgeon adds that similar to facial rejuvenation injections, patients will need to set up periodic maintenance appointments for optimal long-term results.
BOTOX® injections can also be placed in the forehead muscles to treat headaches and migraines. By weakening and relaxing the muscles in the patient’s forehead, injections can effectively alleviate the tension that leads to head pain. In much the same manner, he says facial BOTOX® injections can also provide relief from excessive teeth grinding by weakening the masseter muscle that causes grinding. If used to treat headaches and migraines, BOTOX® injections will typically need to be administered on a periodic basis.
Ultimately, Dr. Miller notes the effects of BOTOX® injections for secondary uses can take up to two weeks for patients to experience their final results. However, he says many of his Boston plastic surgery patients notice an improvement within the first day or two after their treatments. Regardless of why patients seek out BOTOX® injections, Dr. Miller says the treatment is both safe and effective when administered by an experienced medical professional.

Dr. Leonard Miller uses neck liposuction and radiofrequency skin tightening techniques to address patient concerns of the neck, jowls and lower face.
Boston, MA – Dr. Leonard B. Miller, a board-certified Boston plastic surgeon, uses his experience in surgical and non-surgical facial aesthetics to provide patients with a comprehensive approach to cosmetic rejuvenation. At the Boston Center for Facial Rejuvenation, he prides himself on offering his patients effective, long-term results with minimal scarring and a quick recovery.
Radiofrequency skin tightening is a method of heating up the skin (collagen and dermis) to create a tightening effect. This procedure lifts the neck, jowls and lower face. To introduce the heat to the skin, Dr. Miller can either use an electrode on the skin’s surface, use a needle to reach below the skin, or use a combination of both.
Dr. Miller helped to develop the groundbreaking Radiofrequency therma-controlled electrode needle procedure for skin tightening. His patients now experience a painless non-surgical procedure that yields noticeable improvement over the course of a few months.
In addition to this innovative technique, the Boston plastic surgeon says RF skin tightening can be combined with liposuction of the neck to provide a more dramatic change in the contour of a patient’s neck, jawline, and facial features. However, understanding the difference in potential results of surgical and nonsurgical procedures is integral to achieving a successful cosmetic enhancement. The ideal candidate for neck liposuction possesses excess fat in the jowls and neck that may not necessarily need a skin tightening procedure. Compared to certain limitations of the RF skin tightening procedure, Dr. Miller says neck liposuction often produces tremendous results in patients ranging from age 18-50 without a skin tightening procedure.
The RF skin tightening procedure can also improve the outcome of a facelift, or sometimes help patients delay the need for a facelift altogether. Dr. Miller stresses that a surgical procedure is not always necessary to achieve the patient’s desired aesthetic goals, such as a firmer appearance and tighter skin quality, as well as a good shape or angle to the neck. For this reason, Dr. Miller believes anyone considering cosmetic enhancement should consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon to ensure realistic goals and a custom treatment plan are defined.
Regardless of the procedure his Boston plastic surgery patients choose to undergo, he says the ability to combine a varied range of treatments—including fat injections, collagen induction with a rolling needle technique, and radiofrequency skin tightening—allows his patients to achieve the aesthetic outcome they envision.

Most women may be too focused on treating the skin of their face and can ignore other prominent areas such as the neck and décolleté which are just as exposed to the deleterious effects of the sun.
Aging skin of the décolleté is associated with a number of cosmetic concerns such as blotchy pigmentation, red spots, dilated vessels, vertical wrinkling, crepiness and rough texture. All these problems can be addressed with a host of therapies including some newer technologies. These are phototherapy, skin peels, micro-needling, Sculptra, fat injections, various laser treatments and topical creams.
The skin of the neck can also show horizontal signs of premature aging such as discoloration, laxity, lines, crepiness, and textural changes. A youthful appearance can be restored with a combination of radiofrequency, fat injections Botox, micro-needling, skin peeling and topical treatments. Percutaneous Collagen Induction is not a new treatment. It is very effective in improving wrinkles, poor skin texture, acne scarring, crepy loose skin and stretch marks. In fact Dr. Miller maybe one of the first physicians in the United States to use this treatment but only now is the method of inducing collagen formation becoming a widely accepted and popular procedure. For years now Dr. Miller has achieved dramatic results in his patients using a roller device with multiple fine needles. Even crepy neck skin and thin aged looking hands can be significantly improved using this technique which is performed in the office with a local anesthetic taking about one hour.

Dr. Miller has been at the forefront of injectable treatments to the face for over 15 years, providing new and improved injectables to his patients. He is also involved in the development of novel products in this area. The challenge on the injectable front is to provide soft, well tolerated, painless, and long lasting materials. Understanding the science and nature of these products allows one to utilize the appropriate injectable for the appropriate site, to avoid complications, predict the longevity of the product and have the know how and ability to produce excellent all around results. The focus is on softening wrinkles in the forehead, around the eyes, mouth, and lower face and producing lift and fullness to the cheeks by injecting product deeper and increasing volume and replacing that which is lost by aging. Producing fullness and lift to the face can substitute for a surgical facelift procedure although the two are often done together.

The frequently used injectable fillers are Restylane, Juvederm, Radiesse, and Sculptra. These are all made by different companies and each product may have an advantage over the other in certain circumstances and in certain sites.
Most of the injectables are absorbed clinically within six months, but with repeated use over years there is almost a permanent change in the thickness of the tissues with an amelioration of the wrinkles and or lines. Long term use of fillers helps maintain a youthful appearance. Fat injections are an alternate to synthetic fillers and are proving to be a game changer with increased public awareness. The technology with this method continues to improve and people are realizing the advantages that can be achieved by injecting one’s own fat into the face. Rejuvenation is achieved by creating volume and contour enhancement wrinkle softening and improved skin texture. Two treatments are usually required.

Wanting to avoid a facelift procedure but improve a sagging or full neck? There are new techniques to help achieve this. Combining a mini-liposuction procedure of the neck with a sub-dermal radiofrequency skin tightening procedure is the answer. Dr. Miller developed this technology and now has over a year’s experience with many satisfied patients. The procedure is minimally invasive and is performed within an hour in the office under local anesthesia. A compression band is worn for 24 to 36 hours and the patient can then return to work with a normal, but improved appearance.

Dr. Leonard Miller says keeping a facelift “Natural” looking can be a less invasive procedure.
Boston, MA–Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Leonard Miller uses his 25 years experience in facial rejuvenation techniques at his Boston plastic surgery practice to provide a safer, less extensive facelift alternative known as the “natural” facelift. Dr. MIller says this procedure avoids the “pulled” look that many facelift procedures tend to overdo, and allows him to keep scars hidden to help patients achieve a more youthful appearance.
Dr. Miller says the ideal candidates for a “natural” facelift include:
- Patients who are unhappy with their appearance because of loose skin, folds and jowls in the lower face and neck.
- Patients who seek less invasive alternatives to a traditional facelift procedure.
A “natural” facelift procedure is considered to be more versatile than a traditional facelift because it does not use a textbook approach to the operation. According to Dr. Miller, “Offering the ‘natural’ facelift procedure can make it easier to meet patients’ expectations and avoid having to treat patients with unrealistic expectations.”
Dr. Miller says the less invasive procedure can provide countless benefits for patients, including:
- Low complication rate
- Minimal downtime
- Quick and easy recovery
- Scars are easily hidden
- Can be performed in conjunction with other non-invasive techniques such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, fat injections, fractional laser resurfacing, etc.
- Patients do not need to stay overnight after the procedure
When performing a “natural” facelift procedure, Dr. Miller strives to make sure patients’ aesthetic goals are met by providing the most natural-looking results. “Using the most advanced techniques for the ‘natural’ facelift helps patients avoid looking like they have had any plastic surgery done,” Dr. Miller says. The Boston plastic surgeon adds that the procedure can provide similar results to a traditional facelift, but requires less downtime and little discomfort.

Through the use of advanced surgical techniques, Dr. Leonard Miller says fat injections can help patients achieve a more youthful appearance.
Boston, MA–With age, skin tends to lose volume and shape, especially in a patient’s face. Dr. Leonard Miller, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Boston, offers several surgical and non-surgical solutions at his practice, which can help boost volume in facial features, such as the chin, lips and cheeks. Fat injections are one of the procedures he offers which he says can provide effective and natural-looking results.
Dr. Miller says he recommends fat injections, also known as fat “grafting,” over other facial injectables such as Restylane® or Juvederm® when patients:
- Have a sunken appearance
- Lack significant volume in the face
- Have poor skin quality
He adds that fat injections can be more beneficial than other facial enhancement alternatives because he can inject larger volumes of fat to better tailor results. In addition, fat injections can be performed in conjunction with any facial rejuvenation procedure, including a facelift, blepharoplasty and chemical peel procedures.
The procedure requires the extraction of fat cells from other parts of the body, such as the buttocks, thighs or abdomen, and reinjecting the cells under the facial skin. Dr. Miller says the procedure is typically done under local anesthesia and is commonly used to:
- Enhance lips
- Eliminate nasolabial folds
- Raise cheeks
- Restore volume in chin and jawline
At his Boston plastic surgery practice, Dr. Miller uses a structural fat grafting technique known as the Sidney Colman technique with centrifuge fat separation. He recommends two to three treatment sessions for long-lasting results that each require minimal to no downtime.
