Botox® works by reducing the contractions of the muscles that cause those persistent frown lines and creases that have developed over time. It is injected into the skin to treat mild to severe frown lines between the brows, forehead lines, crows feet lines, drooping corners of the mouth, lip lines and neck folds. Botox® is also most useful in alleviating sweating under the arms and in the hands. With one simple, 10-minute treatment, results can be seen within a couple of days and can last for up to four months (individual results will vary). There is no recovery time. Many patients have the treatment performed on their lunch hour. After treatment you may experience some redness or swelling.

BOTOX IN THE NEWS

April 2008

An important note of reassurance for all patients receiving cosmetic Botox treatment:

Lately, the media has reported instances of serious adverse reactions to Botox injections. As a plastic surgeon with many years of experience, having done thousands of Botox treatments, I feel comfortable in allaying any concerns you may have regarding cosmetic Botox treatments.

In the media, instances mentioned, relate possibly to another type of Botox used and to high administered doses and were for non-cosmetic medical treatment, specifically for the management of juvenile cerebral palsy and spasticity problems.

To date, over 1 million people worldwide have successfully received Botox treatment for cosmetic purposes. It is important to know that any serious adverse affects from Botox have not been related to cosmetic treatment.
