Few procedures can compare with the facelift to reduce the most visible signs of aging. Facelift surgery offers the most significant improvement in the removal of wrinkles and folds. During the procedure, excess fat is removed, the underlying muscle is tightened and the skin of your face and neck is repositioned for a more youthful appearance.
Many patients choose to combine a facelift with another procedure -- eyelid surgery or non-surgical rejuvenation techniques such as Botox®, Restylane®, Radiesse® or fat injections -- to achieve more dramatic results.
The Procedure - Incisions usually begin at the hairline and pass through the natural creases of the ear, leaving most scars hidden within the hairline and around the ear. Sometimes a small incision is made under the chin to allow for reshaping the neck. The skin is then separated from the underlying fat and muscle with trimming or suctioning the fat to improve contour. After deep tissues are tightened, the excess skin is redraped, trimmed and sutured into place.
The procedure takes from 1 ½ to 3 hours and varies from patient to patient, depending on the complexity. Almost all of our facelifts are performed in our fully accredited, state-of-the-art surgical suite here at Brookline Place under local anesthesia with or without intravenous sedation.
Recovery (What To Expect) - Some degree of bruising and swelling is to be expected, which will resolve over a one to two week period. Activity should be limited for the first week following surgery, avoiding strenuous activities for one to two weeks. Most patients return to work within a one to two week period.
