About Blepharoplasty Eyelid Surgery

Blepharoplasty Eyelid Surgery lifts upper lids and reduces puffy bags below your eyes that can make you look older and more tired than you actually are. In addition to giving patients a younger, more alert look, the effects of this surgery can also help those whose vision is impaired by drooping upper lids. Some of our Boston patients have benefitted from choosing to have additional reshaping facial surgery performed at the same time as their eyelid surgery (forehead lift, face lift, improvements to the nose and/or chin).

Eyelid Surgery can have a significant impact on your appearance and self-confidence, but it will not remove crow’s feet or other deep wrinkles, eliminate dark circles beneath the eyes, or lift sagging eyebrows. Alternatively, some patients of the Boston Center for Facial Rejuvenation prefer to use Botox® to lift the brow and therefore the eyelid, which may delay the need Eyelid Surgery.

The Blepharoplasty Eyelid Surgery Procedure

This procedure takes approximately two hours for both the upper and lower eye areas. Boston Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Leonard Miller makes an incision along the natural lines of the upper eyelid creases and just below the lashes in the lower eye area. Skin is separated from the subcutaneous layers, the excess fat removed, and the sagging skin is then trimmed. Very fine sutures are used to close incision sites.

For those patients requiring only the removal of fat pockets beneath the lower eyelids, a transconjuctival blepharoplasty can be performed where an incision is made inside your lower eyelid with no visible scarring.

Nearly all eyelid surgeries are performed in Dr. Miller’s fully accredited, state-of-the-art surgical suite at our Brookline office.

Blepharoplasty Eyelid Surgery Recovery

Some swelling and bruising is to be expected, while pain is usually minimal. Most patients return to work after a week or ten days. Stitches are removed approximately 5 days after surgery. Once they are removed, any swelling and discoloration around your eyes will gradually subside.

Blepharoplasty Eyelid Surgery Results

Patients of Blepharoplasty Eyelid Surgery with Dr. Miller are very happy with the results and many return to the Boston Center for Facial Rejuvenation for other surgical and non-invasive services like the Natural Surgical Facelift, Botox®, medical facials, and advanced laser treatments.

How much does Blepharoplasty Eyelid Surgery cost?

Costs associated with the Blepharoplasty Eyelid Surgery depend on whether the patient is doing one or both of the eye areas (upper/lower). Other factors include the surgical fee, facility fee, medication expenses, and anesthesia fee. While we do not accept any form of insurance, if your procedure can be covered by your insurance company, Dr. Miller will gladly refer you to the appropriate plastic surgeon whose office does accept insurance.

“Dr. Miller suggested eyelid surgery to remove the wrinkled lines that were causing me to look tired. I was very concerned about the safety and comfort of the procedure. Everything went very well and I was amazed at how minimal the discomfort and pain were. The results were amazing. I couldn’t believe how often people commented how great I looked.”
