The Liposuction Procedure
Deposits of fat are removed to recontour one or more areas of the body. Dr. Miller uses a technique called tumescent liposuction which involves injecting the areas to be treated with large volumes of a medicated fluid. The fluid contains a local anesthetic, a saline solution and epinephrine, a drug that contracts blood vessels. The solution creates swelling and stiffens the fat, making it easier to suction off. It also helps to reduce bleeding. The incision sites will be carefully chosen so that scarring is as inconspicuous as possible.
What To Expect When Recovering From Liposuction
Today’s newer techniques have reduced post-operative discomfort but you will still experience some. You will be fitted with a compression garment that you will wear for 2-3 weeks. Patients generally return to work within a few days and begin to feel better after a week or two. It is important that you maintain your weight and exercise regime after liposuction so that your results will last many years. Patients aren’t likely to gain the fat back in the areas treated, unless they gain a lot of weight after the surgery.
