Breast Reduction
Breast Reduction is the surgical reshaping of very large breasts to increase a woman's comfort and improve her lifestyle. A variety of medical problems can be caused by the excessive weight of very large breasts - back and neck pain, breathing problems and skin irritation. A breast reduction can help reduce and/or minimize such problems.
The Procedure - Breast reductions are usually performed under general anaesthetic at the hospital since it is not a simple procedure. The operation usually takes about 3 hours, and involves an anchor-shaped incision that circles the areola, extends downward in a vertical line, and follows the natural curve of the crease beneath the breast. Dr. Miller removes the excess glandular tissue, fat and skin, and moves the nipple and areola up into their new position. The skin from both sides of the breast is then brought down and around the areola, shaping the new contour of the breast. Liposuction may be used to remove excess fat from the armpit area or to further improve the shape of the new breast.
Recovery (What To Expect) About half of the breast reduction patients can go home the same day. After about two weeks, most patients can return to work.
